Vegetarian animals have been given the first place for safari in Rajgir Zoo Safari. If you are going for safari then first you will reach Herbivore Safari. Vegetarian animals i.e. deer have been kept in this safari. That's why this safari has been named Herbivore Safari. There are only deer here, in the future more animals will be brought here.
A total of 5 species of deer are currently present in Herbivore Safari. These include Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Samber, Chital, and Black Buck. Including all these deer, there are more than 200 deer present here. As soon as you enter the Herbivore Safari, you will see all of them roaming around and grazing.
Barking Deer
Barking deer is also known as Muntjac (Kasturi Hiran) in India. It is a species of deer found in South East Asia and India. Muntjac deer species emit fragrance from its body, which is why this species of deer is most famous. Among all the deer, only Muntjac deer screams or barks, that is why it is called Barking Deer. In other words, it is also called Kankad Deer.
Hog Deer
The hog deer is a minor species of deer found in Southeast Asia. In India, it is also known as Padha. Hog deer are also found in Pakistan. The hog deer has a face like a pig. That's why it is called hog deer. Also, its pearl tail makes it different from all other deer. Hog deer are dark brown in colour, which makes them recognizable.
Sambar
The deer of Sambar species are known for their big size body and big branched horns, which makes them the biggest deer in India. These are mainly found in the Himalayas and their surrounding mountain valleys. Besides, Sambar species of deer are also found in some other parts of Southeast Asia like South China, Indonesia, Taiwan, etc.
Chital
Deer of Chital species are light brown with white spots. They are easy to identify due to their hairy three-pronged horns, short tails and white spots on their body. Chital deer species are mainly found in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. These deer are the fastest in running compared to all other deer.
Blackbuck
Blackbuck (Kala Hiran) is also known as Krishn Mug in India. Blackbuck is mainly found in India. Due to non-use, the blackbuck has become extinct in Bangladesh and Nepal. It can be easily identified due to its dark brown colour and sharp scrue-shaped horns.
